# Share files with PeerDrop

Send files straight from one device to another with nothing uploaded, share a download link that lasts 7 days, or chat with an AI agent.

**Open PeerDrop:** https://www.razi.pro/tools/file-share

## Steps

1. On the sending device, open File Share and choose Direct.
2. Click Send files to get a 6-digit code, a QR code and a link.
3. On the other device, open razi.pro/d and enter the code, or scan the QR code, or open the link.
4. When both devices show Connected, click Send files and pick your files.
5. On the receiving device, click Accept and choose where to save.
6. Keep the page open on both devices until the transfer finishes.

## Two ways to send

[File Share](https://www.razi.pro/tools/file-share) gives you two options at the top of the page:

| | **Direct** | **Upload link** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where the file goes | Straight from this device to theirs. Nothing is uploaded. | Stored on our servers for 7 days. |
| Size limit | None | Up to 50MB |
| When they can get it | Both devices must be on the page at the same time | Any time in the next 7 days |

Use **Direct** when the other device is in front of you or someone is on the phone with you. Use **Upload link** when you want to send a link now and let them open it later.

## Sending directly, device to device

In Direct mode the file goes from your browser to theirs. Our server only introduces the two browsers to each other. It never sees what you send.

1. Choose **Direct**, then **Send files**. You get a 6-digit code, a QR code, and a **Copy link** button.
2. On the other device, open [razi.pro/d](https://www.razi.pro/d) and enter the code. Or scan the QR code, or open the link, and the device connects on its own.
3. When you see **Connected**, click **Send files**. You can pick several files at once. On browsers that support it you also get **Send a folder**.
4. The other device sees what is coming and its size, and chooses **Accept** or **Decline**. Nothing downloads without their say-so.

The code works for 10 minutes and can be used once. If it expires, go back and start again for a fresh one.

Keep the tab open on both devices until the transfer finishes. On a phone, the page tries to stop the screen from locking during a transfer, because a locked screen can stop it partway.

**How big can a file be?** Direct mode has no size limit of its own, but the receiving browser matters. Chrome and Edge can save the file straight to disk, so very large files work. Other browsers have to hold the whole transfer in memory, and anything over about 1.5 GB is refused before it starts. In that case, receive on Chrome or Edge.

**Text messages.** Once connected, you can type in the chat box and press Enter to send. It is handy for a link, a snippet or a password. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.

## Sending a download link

Choose **Upload link** to get a link anyone can open later.

- Click or drag a file onto the page, then click **Upload File**. When it finishes, click **Copy** to copy the link.
- Files can be up to 50MB.
- The link works for 7 days. After that the file is deleted.
- You can upload images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF), videos (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV), PDFs, text and CSV files, ZIP archives, and Word and Excel documents.
- You can upload up to 5 files a minute.

**If you are not signed in**, your upload is listed under **Recent Uploads**, which everyone visiting the page can see. Do not use an anonymous upload for anything private. When you are signed in, your files are listed under **Your Files** instead.

Anonymous uploads can also be refused with **A quick human check is required before uploading**, or when the shared capacity for anonymous uploads is used up. [Signing in](https://www.razi.pro/signin) avoids both. For something private or large, use Direct mode instead.

## Chatting with an AI agent

You can invite an AI agent, such as Claude Code, Cursor or your own script, into a Direct room. You can then chat with it and swap files with it.

1. Choose **Direct**, then **Send files**.
2. Click **Copy prompt for your AI agent**.
3. Paste the prompt into your agent. It joins the room using the code.

When an agent connects, the page says **You are chatting with an agent**. This is different from a device-to-device transfer: messages and files you exchange with an agent pass through our server. They are passed along, not stored.

Files to or from an agent are limited to 1 GB each and go one at a time. Folders cannot be sent to an agent. Messages to an agent can be up to 16,384 characters, and both sides must stay online while a file transfers.

## If it doesn't connect

- **"That code has expired or was mistyped."** Codes last 10 minutes and work once. Start again on the sending device to get a new one.
- **"Someone else already joined with that code."** The code has already been used. Get a new one.
- **"Too many attempts. Wait a moment and try again."** Pause for a minute before entering a code again.
- **"A direct connection could not be established on this network."** or **"Could not reach the other device."** One of the networks is blocking direct connections, which is common on office and school Wi-Fi. Try a different network, such as mobile data, or click **Switch to upload mode**.
- **"Direct transfer is not available here"** means this browser cannot do direct transfers. Try an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or click **Use upload mode instead**.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is my file uploaded when I use Direct mode?

No. In Direct mode the file travels straight from your browser to the other browser. Our server only helps the two devices find each other and never sees the file. The one exception is chatting with an AI agent, where messages and files pass through our server without being stored.

### How long does a PeerDrop code last?

A code works for 10 minutes and can be used once. If it expires or has been used, start again on the sending device to get a new code.

### Is there a file size limit?

Direct mode has no size limit of its own. If the receiver uses Chrome or Edge, the file is saved straight to disk. Other browsers hold the transfer in memory and refuse anything over about 1.5 GB. Upload links are limited to 50MB, and files to or from an AI agent to 1 GB each.

### How long does an upload link stay available?

7 days. After that the file is deleted and the link stops working.

### Can other people see my uploaded files?

If you upload while signed out, the file appears in the Recent Uploads list on the File Share page, which anyone can see. If you are signed in, it is listed under Your Files instead. For private files, use Direct mode.

### Why won't my two devices connect?

Usually one of the networks blocks direct connections, which is common on office and school Wi-Fi. Try another network, such as mobile data, or switch to upload mode. Also check that the code has not expired.
